This Labor Day weekend the party’s in the “bag”. Or ON the bag, that is. Gabriel’s Wine and Spirits and the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (SACADA) in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation( TxDOT) are encouraging their customers and the public to “Arrive Alive: Designate a Driver.” The Arrive Alive Campaign purchased 150,000 quart size liquor bags imprinted with its message for distribution at local Gabriel’s outlets beginning Friday, September 4 to remind the public to have a safe Labor Day weekend. The clerks in the stores will also be showing some “flair” with the Arrive Alive message.
Watch the video of todays Press Event at: www.qik.com/sacadalive and www.qik.com/SACADATexas In 2008 there were 2,256 crashes involving DUI with 33 fatalities in Bexar County*. This new partnership is dedicated to reducing these incidents. “This is an important step in building the kind of comprehensive approach we need to curb drunken driving in this community. I hope more retailers will take a similar leadership role in promoting the ‘Arrive Alive’ message, “stated San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro. Gabriel’s Wine and Spirits is known for giving back to the community. They have been leaders in the industry with their charitable contributions and now they are stepping up to be leaders once again. “We challenge other retailers to spread the message to Arrive Alive and be part of the solution to encourage people to be safe, “said Ronnie Gabriel, President of Gabriel’s Holdings. This is the first time that retailers, social service agencies, government and law enforcement are collaborating to send a consistent message that drinking and driving is not acceptable. “You have a choice to pay a $15.00 -$20.00 cab ride or take a cop ride & pay $15,000-$20,000 for a DWI. The Choice is yours, “said Linda Tomasini, TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist. TxDOT supports the Arrive Alive: Designate a Driver message and encourages Texas motorists to designate a sober driver if you have been drinking.
