About the Bexar County D.W.I. Task Force
Welcome to the Bexar County D.W.I. Task Force web site. Bexar County is located in south central Texas and has a population of over 1.5 million people. Bexar County consist of twenty-five incorporated cities or towns in which the City of San Antonio is the largest. The Bexar County D.W.I. Task Force was originally created in 1985 by a "seed" grant from Texas Department of Transportation. Since its creation, it has grown to over 30 member agencies/organizations. The law enforcement agencies that take part in the organization are committed to enforcing the laws of the State and arresting intoxicated drivers and other violators of alcohol-related laws. There are other organizations that devote their time and efforts to include Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (M.A.D.D.), Baptist Health System, University Health System, Wilford Hall Medical Center, Brooke Army Medical Center, South Texas Injury Prevention & Research Center, St. Mary's University, Our Lady of the Lake, Trinity University, University of the Incarnate Word, University of Texas @ San Antonio, The University of Texas Health Science Center @ San Antonio, South Texas Regional Advisory Council, San Antonio Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse, Region XX Education Service Center, Northside ISD, Northeast ISD, Harlandale ISD, San Antonio ISD, Edgewood ISD, Shattered Dreams Coalition. The task force meets regularly and engages in saturation patrols, law enforcement special campaigns, as well as community public information & education campaigns. Bexar County has always ranked as one of the top counties in the entire state for alcohol-related crashes. The task force strives to educate police officers from member agencies in D.W.I. enforcement to include training, case law updates, and D.W.I. recognition. Without active participation from its members, the task force would be ineffective and defunct. It is with the active involvement of our members that the task force finds its success. It is also the goal of the task force to also educate the public and through the media about the dangers associated with impaired driving and other alcohol-related incidents. This website is always being updated and new information being added. We welcome you to visit our site as frequent as possible for new content. This site is possible with the devoted work of everyone involved. Special thanks for the support from the Alamo Heights Police Department, the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. |
