BEXAR COUNTY D.W.I. TASK FORCE

 Welcome to the Bexar County D.W.I. Task Force web site. Bexar County is located in south central Texas and has a population of over 1.5 million people. Bexar County consist of twenty-five incorporated cities or towns in which San Antonio is the largest.The Bexar County DWI Task Force originated in 1985 from a TxDOT grant. It evolved into a non-funded task force to include all alcohol-related types of criminal incidents. Since its foundation, Bexar County law enforcement agencies have created a partnership to operate as a multi-agency DWI Task Force.


The law enforcement agencies that take part in the organization are committed to enforcing the laws of the State and arrest intoxicated drivers. There are many other organizations that devote their time and efforts also. The Task Force meets regularly and engages in saturation patrols as well as other community functions.

MISSION STATEMENT
It is the mission of the Bexar County D.W.I. Task Force to reduce alcohol and drug related motor vehicle accidents, injuries and deaths in Bexar County. We will seek out and arrest those who disobey impaired driving laws through law enforcement special operations, training and community involvement. By enforcing impaired driving laws and educating the public about impaired driving, we will provide a safer community for the citizens of Bexar County.

Keeping People Safe During Fiesta: SA Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse Leads Initiatives with Law Enforcement & Community Agencies

 

(San Antonio, TX)-- A series of prevention and education initiatives aimed at keeping millions of people safe during the upcoming Fiesta celebration has been unveiled by the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (SACADA). At a press conference on Main Plaza today, SACADA officials were joined by their Circles of San Antonio Community Coalition members which is comprised of local, county and state organizations, law enforcement authorities and other community partners who want to ensure that Fiesta is a fun and memorable experience.

 

 

 

SACADA’s Executive Director Pam Armstrong says, “We are pleased that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) are collaborating this year to announce their efforts to prevent and deter the abuse and misuse of alcohol and other drugs at Fiesta. More than three million people will be in San Antonio during the eleven-day festival, which runs from April 16th -25th. Many of the 107 events serve alcohol. SACADA and all of our Coalition partners will be proactive with education, training and enforcement efforts. Our goal is to make sure everyone enjoys a safe and responsible Fiesta season.”

 

 

 

Other organizations teaming up with SACADA to implement initiatives for a safe Fiesta are Fiesta San Antonio Commission and the Bexar County DWI Task Force.

IN MEMORY OF ANGEL ACUNA, ALAMO HEIGHTS POLICE DEPARTMENT #148

Angel Antonio (Tony) Acuna was born on March 6, 1965 in San Antonio, Texas and lost his long battle with stomach cancer and went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2009. He retired from the Texas Air National Guard 149th Squadron after 20 years of dedicated service. Angel has worked for numerous security and law
enforcement agencies over the years in the San Antonio area, serving five years with the Methodist Healthcare System, three years with University Health System, nine years with St. Mary’s University Police Department and was currently serving as a police officer with the Alamo Heights Police Department. He was a TCLEOSE certified Firearms instructor, and was also an International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) and Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) certified instructor. Angel also dedicated his time to the local bicycle rodeos held at area San Antonio Elementary Schools.  Angel will be missed and was loved by everyone that was blessed to have known him. http://www.rememberangel.info


 

 
Blood Search Warrant Week

Peace Officers from across Bexar County are trained and ready for the D.A.'s Office to launch 24hrs of blood draws for those who refuse to provide officers with a breath sample.

If an impaired driver refuses to provide a breath sample to an officer, the officer might get a search warrant and have a nurse take a sample of blood from the drunk driver.  If the impaired driver resists the officer or nurse he or she could be facing additional charges.  If you're going to drink, designate a sober driver or take a cab.
